Obstructive sleep airway obstruction during sleep. OSA is largely undiagnosed and untreated, and has been recognized as an independent risk factor for clinical consequences such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and abnormal glucose metabolism. Dentists are recognized team players in the screening and management of OSA patients. The physical characteristics commonly present in patients with OSA are easily identifiable during a routine dental examination, and basic screening questionnaires can be added to routine dental appointments. Professional medical and dental organizations have shown the need for a mutual collaboration and multidisciplinary approach in the management of OSA patients.
